AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring (2 Day)

Please Note: This is a 2-day course. By selecting the date listed you are registering for this date and the following day. The times for this course are Day 1 (7:30am-5:00pm) and Day 2 (7:30am-5:00pm).

Description and Target Audience: The AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course is for OB nurses with at least 6 months experience. This two-day workshop is designed to promote integration of knowledge and skills essential to assessment, promotion and evaluation of fetal well-being during labor.

Objectives:

At the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Analyze fetal heart rate patterns, uterine activity and their implications for fetal well-being.
  2. Discuss indicated clinical interventions and related maternal-fetal physiology.
  3. Effectively communicate verbal and written data about patient status.
  4. Describe the roles and responsibilities of health care providers in the use of fetal heart rate monitoring in intrapartum care.
  5. Demonstrate the psychomotor skills used in fetal heart monitoring.

Testing: Written exam. One-on-one skills testing required.

Course Length: 16 hours

Certification Length: 2 years

Includes: Student Manual and certification card.

Location: CoxHealth Education Center, CoxHealth North, K400, 4th Floor, Classroom #1.

Directions: Enter Cox North from the Robberson Ave. Northwest Entrance. Upon entering the building turn right and take the elevator to the 4th floor. You will arrive in the Education Center lobby.

Educational Credit

Continuing education will be awarded by AWHONN for 18.0 contact hours. Participants can print certificates 3 weeks after completion.

Participants will receive statements of credit at the end of the program when all requirements for credit have been met. Satisfactory completion of objectives will occur through course attendance.
